A Celebration of Jazz with Juju & Tom - April, 21 at Virgola

Sat 04/20/19 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM EDT

Hey Chattanooga! Set your calendars, April is Jazz Month!

Step back into the 60s free jazz scene as we transform Virgola into a 1960s jazz club for a night. April is Jazz Month and for one night only are welcoming nationally renowned jazz entertainers Juju Gordon & Tom Cordell. Free Jazz resists classification and relies heavily on improvisation and free-form jazz. Some might call it avant-garde, but we just call it great modern jazz! And you will too. Please help us Saturday, April 20th in welcoming them to Virgola, located in downtown Chattanooga, for A Celebration of Jazz with Juju & the Tom Cordell Quartet! Tickets are limited, so get yours today!

Juju Gordon, a consummate entertainer, an incredible vocalist/musician, and the niece of tenor sax musician Dexter Gordon, plays a huge part in jazz history. She was introduced to the jazz world in New Your City at a very early age when her dad played with legendary jazz pianist Count Basie. That early indoctrination influenced her throughout her musical career as she played or sang with the likes of Lola Falana, Wayne Newton, Andy Williams, Leslie Uggams, Lou Rawls, & Michael McDonald. Juju played tambourine on Don Mclean’s Bye Bye Miss American Pie, and performed as a “Pepsi Girl” backup singer to Ray Charles on the Right Thing tour.

The Tom Cordell Jazz Quartet plays straight ahead popular jazz, cool jazz, avant-garde jazz, and even free-form improv, just to name a few genres. They have performed all over the South East and are diverse group of musicians. The Tom Cordell Jazz Band, from Chattanooga, TN, is a 4 to 5 piece group playing any style of jazz and especially avante garde & progressive jazz. They play straight-ahead jazz originals and standards in the vein of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Horace Silver, Antônio Carlos Jobim, John Coltrane, Kenny Dorham, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Mingus, Tadd Dameron & many more.

Tix are $25-35 on EventBrite.
