The Evolution of Downtown & Downtown Adjacent Places

Thu 05/23/19 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM EDT

In metropolitan areas throughout the country, the rise of downtowns have also buoyed Downtown Adjacent places similar to NorthShore, Southside and UTC here in Chattanooga. Come hear from famed urbanist Chris Leinberger as he describes how these adjacent places play a major role in the regional economy and a self-enforcing role with Downtown. In other words, "more is better".

Chris Leinberger is the Chair and Professor at the Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis at George Washington University in Washington, DC. and is the founding partner of Arcadia Land Company, a walkable urban development firm. He has been a Nonresident Senior Fellow at Brookings Institution, President and owner of RCLCo (the leading real estate advisory firm in the U.S.), and President of Smart Growth America's LOCUS subsidiary, a real estate developer advocacy organization. He has written or contributed chapters to 15 books, including The Option of Urbanism. He was voted one of the “The 100 Most Influential Urbanists” in a poll conducted by Planetizen, the urban planning website, in 2017. Having a long history of work right here in Chattanooga, Chris Leinberger helped create the first downtown strategic plan in 1987 and also worked on the Southside master plan.

Join us for this free event that's open to the public with coffee, pastries and networking at 8:00am. Presentation starts at 8:30am.
